The simple leaves of Alberta magna are opposite, the leaf-shape elliptic to obovate. The leaf tip is rounded to broadly tapering, the base narrowly tapering. Leaf margins are entire, wavy and rolled under. They rarely become as long as 13 cm or as wide as 5 cm wide.

The leaves are hairless, leathery and glossy green on their upper surfaces. The lower leaf surface is pale with raised, cream coloured midrib, the parallel lateral veins prominent.

Cup-shaped and bearded stipules that drop off early grow next to the stout leaf petioles (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Pooley, 1993; Rhino Club Newsletter).
