The erect leaves of Rhombophyllum dolabriforme curve inwards in a sickle-shape, the leaf tips shaped like large, laterally flattened hammerheads. Leaves become up to 3 cm long. The bulge at the outside of the leaf tip is variably shaped, more cranium than tooth, behind a mostly pointed, beak-like tip, suggesting animated social activity among inquisitive leaf bodies, for those who indulge in plant personification.

The smooth grey leaf surfaces, sometimes green or brown, are faintly mottled in translucent spots, the mottling sometimes bulging. When the randomly scattered spots become bulges, the leaf surfaces are rough (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 1998; iSpot; www.llifle.com).
