Image information

Description

The alternate leaves of Bertilia hantamensis are mainly found near the base of the plant, the lower ones withering early.

The leaf-shape is oblanceolate to elliptic, the leaves deeply divided into narrow, oblong lobes with coarsely toothed margins. The midrib is sunken in the upper surface as are the central veins into the lobes. The opposing lobes are not quite paired. The margins are rolled under.

There is a narrowing at the base of the leaf, not quite a petiole (Cron, GV, 2013: A New Monotypic Genus in the Senecioneae (Asteraceae) in SA. SA Journal of Botany, Vol 88, pp 10 – 16; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
