Description

Different stages of Fingerhuthia africana inflorescences are present in the photo, down to a naked stalk with tiny ridges where the spikelets were attached.

Thin awns protrude from the spikelets still intact. The greenish lance-shaped to linear glumes or bracts at the spikelet bases turn beige as they dry (Van Oudtshoorn, et al, 1991; Lowrey and Wright, 1987; iNaturalist).
