Description

Tritoniopsis lata var. lata is a deciduous, cormous perennial. It grows to between 25 cm and 50 cm in height. The plant annually produces from one to three narrow, sword-shaped leaves, each with one to three veins. The leaves are enveloped by a fibrous membrane at ground level.

The plant grows on fynbos slopes in seasonal seeps or near watercourses in sandy and rocky places. The plant is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century.

There is also a T. lata var. longibracteata growing in the Western Cape (Manning, 2007; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
