Image information

Description

The fruit pods of Senegalia galpinii are straight, tapering at both ends. The hairless pod is reddish to purplish brown with dimensions of up to 28 cm by 3,5 cm. Those in picture are halfway in losing their initial green colour. They were photographed in July near Sabie.

Ripe woody pods will dehisce to release the seeds around early autumn. Up to ten flat, disc-like seeds with dark brown patches in the centre are produced per pod (Carr, 1976; Coates Palgrave, 2002).
