The naked peduncle of the spent Othonna hederifolia flowerhead is long, cylindrical and erect.

The fruits forming in the head are densely hairy achenes. The pappuses of the marginal florets elongate during the fruit stage. One row or ring of purple involucral bracts holds everything safely together until all is ready for the flight of the fruit.

The yellow flowerhead that came before would average about 13 ray florets and its disc florets between 50 and 100.

The petioles ensure that the erect blades of the radical leaves are not quite in the sand. Petioles are from 2 cm to 7 cm long. Radical leaves are those that emerge directly from the ground.
