The flower of Colchicum coloratum subsp. coloratum is positioned between two opposing reddish bracts, shorter than the leaves and nearly erect around the flower. Their tips may be pointed as in picture, the larger (outer) one having some green in its upper part. There are parallel, longitudinal vein lines across the bract blades.

The flower is up to 12 mm in diameter. Six stamens are positioned in a ring around the ovary and stigmas, the anthers yellow. Flowering happens from midwinter to the beginning of spring (Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
