Image information

Description

The flowers of Colchicum striatum are dominated by the eye-catching bracts arranged in a broad collar around them; pointed, green striped and striking. The cluster of greenish flowers inside the bracts has a multitude of prominent, erectly exserted stamens, topped by pale brownish anthers. The flowers appear from midwinter to early spring.

Some Colchicum species (like this one) used to be known as Androcymbium, a now defunct generic category (Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982).
