Image information

Description

The Clematis brachiata flowers are gone by May, leaving these heads of yellowish green achenes, the small, eventually dry and indehiscent fruits of the traveller’s joy. Each achene contains a single seed with a persistent silky haired style. These ballerina-like styles curve gracefully in unison to yield the effect that brings joy to passing travellers.
