Description

Many prospective growers of Adenia glauca have to do so in greenhouse conditions to protect it from low temperatures. The plant may be grown from stem cuttings, but such plants usually do not develop caudices. They do, however, flower better and are used to produce seed. A seedling will develop the spectacular green bark caudex that is displayed well when the plant is leafless in winter. The caudex of a mature specimen may measure 70 cm in diameter.

A. glauca has dark green, palmate and deciduous leaves. Green tendrils and young, green stems are visible in the picture (www.desert-tropicals.com; Wikipedia).
